Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

HBOTThe Gas Laws of Physics state that as the pressure of a gas is increased, a liquid absorbs more of the gas. This law hold true for the human body as well. Consider this; at sea level our lungs absorb the normal amount of oxygen needed to function properly. As we move into even slightly higher elevations, air pressure drops, and with it our body’s capacity to absorb oxygen into the blood cells and plasma. Oxygen deficiency leads to the delayed or lack of healing of many common ailments such as:

  • Infections
  • Burns
  • Ulcers
  • Edema
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Acute carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Sports related injuries
(Many professional sports teams have hyperbaric chambers in their facilities. The football player Terrell Owens memorably used HBOT to heal rapidly from a fractured leg, in time to play in the 2005 Super bowl).

At WHNE we provide a simple solution for a speedy recovery. Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy utilizes a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to diffuse oxygen into the blood cells and other body fluids. The increased pressure inside the chamber enables the injured site to receive a healing dose of oxygen through the surrounding fluids and plasma, even in circumstances where the blood supply to the injured tissue is impaired. To further boost the oxygen concentration in the chamber, a supplemental oxygen supply may be added during the treatment.

The length of the treatment depends on our doctors’ assessment for each individual. It may last a single hour-long session, or require a treatment lasting a number of weeks. HBOT has wide-ranging benefits to our health and is proven to significantly speed up and improve healing.
